Yeah that should work. 1000W power supply seems just overkill even if you go SLI with 9800GT. Check out ACTUAL System power consumption figures here: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3341&p=22
The 8800GT SLI set up (very similar to 9800GT) does not even hit 300W on wall socket. The VERY powerful GTX 280 SLI setup only hits ~500W.
If you really want a Kick-a** rig, go all out on the graphics card.
