Did You Know…

Increasing your monitor size could increase your productivitiy and efficiency up by 40%?

Adding a secondary monitor could increase your productivity and efficiency up by 65%?

Changing your seat and placing keyboard/mice in a comfort location could increase your productivity and efficiency up by 20%?

Having a computer that runs fast could increase your productivity and efficiency up by 200% on average?

Now if you combine the above all together, how would you like to increase your productivitiy and efficiency by up to 325%? Read on…

What’s Special About Monitor Size and Multiple Monitors?

By having a bigger or additional screen, you will have more desktop workspace; you will be able to open up more windows/programs and have all of them visible to you at the same time. By decreasing the number of times you minimize windows in order to see what you’re looking for, your productivity is increased because you don’t have to waste time on minimizing windows. This can only be achievable if you have larger desktop workspace.

The more desktop space you have also means (usually) the bigger screen resolution you have. For example, for 19″ LCD monitors the screen resolution can normally go up to 1280×1024. For 24″ LCD monitors the screen resolution can normally go up to 1920×1200. Why is this important? You may ask. This is especially true for graphic designers where the larger the screen resolution reduces the time people spend on “scrolling” up-and-down or left-to-right in order to see where they want to see. Therefore, productivity increases.

Are your keyboard/mice position and chair comfortable enough?

Improper keyboard/mice position will result in you working with tensed shoulders. Poorly designed chair will result in you working with tensed back. If your body is not in a comfort position the amount of time that you need to stand up and stretch increases.

Don’t be Cheap on Your Computer for Work

This is probably the most obvious but often ignored problem that most beginner business owners have. By having a faster computer your programs will load faster. By having a faster computer you will be able to open up more programs at the same time. A business owner needs to have a business class computer! The computer has to be fast and reliable.

 Conclusion

Your productivity increases dramatically when you give yourself a productive work environment. Other than the items mentioned above, I’ll end with the following suggestions:

If you have a laptop, get an external keyboard and mice. This is optional since it depends on how comfortable and productive are you with your laptop keyboard and trackpad compared to a full size external keyboard and mice.

If your laptop supports a docking station, get one. This will reduce the time you need to plug in all the connections every time you bring your laptop into your office.

Rest and Stretch once a while.

Drink a lot of water while you work.

Pay attention to your body. If you are not feeling comfortable to work, don’t. Working few hours in best body condition often yields more productivity and efficiency than working a lot of hours in poor body condition.
