Is it true its more energy efficient to keep your air conditioning running all summer then it would be to shut it off on the not so hot days?

AC units that are in good condition don’t gain efficiency by being operated WHEN NOT NEEDED.
Adjusting the thermostat is more efficient than shutting it off. If shut off, it needs to cool the whole house from scratch. If you raise the temperature setting a couple degrees, it will turn off when that temp is reached. Depends on how cool/warm is comfortable for you.

It depends on the climate where you live. I live in the desert where a cool day is in the mid 90’s. If I turned the AC off on a cool day, and then turned it back on when it got hot, my AC would have to work twice as hard to cool the space initially. As long as the space you are cooling doesn’t get a lot of sun or hold in too much heat, you should be okay to turn off the AC.
It is much more efficient to maintain a temperature rather than reaching it.
In other words the equipment will harder trying to get an area comfortable rather than keeping a room comfortable.

It is better, however if you turn it on early in the day (when its really hot) and leave it run. If you wait and turn it on during the hottet part of the day (1:00–4:00)it will need to work a long time to cool the house and that will cost you some $$$.
True. A ton of research has been done on this subject, and 75-78 degrees is about right. If the outside temperature cools off, it will not run. If you live in a humid climate, it is even more important because of mold.

Purchase a programmable thermostat from your local HV/AC store such as Lennex or whatever. This thermostat will have a weekday program and a weekend program on it and also an override. Then program the thermostat to turn a temperature of 68 degrees whenever no one is at home and program it to turn on back to 70, 71 or 72 depending on your comfort level. This is the most efficient way of heating and cooling your home if you are worried about the expenses involved. Plus if you come home early or leave too late then you won’t feel too hot or cold coming and leaving. Its alot more expensive to heat or cool a home from the outside adjusted temperature after leaving all day.
So your answer is yes, dont turn off the AC, buy a digital programmable thermostat, it will turn itself off whenever it needs to, zing.
If you don’t believe me then I guess you’ll have to ask “The Mythbusters”.
It depends on your thermostat setting, how hot it gets and how many not so hot days you have. The longer it’s off the better chance of saving energy.
