The City Council of Sabadell has installed this smart meter at Ramón Castañas house. The smart meter gives you in real time the consumption of the whole house. For instance, if I switch on the lights, the meter shows the change instantly. This pilot trial conceived to reduce electricity consumption, consists of one hundred units being installed at one hundred families homes that previously have requested the meter. The objective of the trial run by Sabadells City Council is to increase awareness of how much is being consumed and how to save electricity in an easy way. Municipal technicians will install the units free of charge and they will explain how the meter works and how to reduce electricity bills. This is a pioneering experience never done before in Catalonia. By previous experience, these meters can save up 5 to 20% of electricity in the first year. The pilot trial is one of the actions within the Municipal Programme for Climate Change Mitigation. The final objetive is to install 700 meters like these in 700 families in the next four years. This will allow saving more than one hundred tones of CO2.
