what do the star energy cards mean on pokemon cards?

if a pokemon has that as a requirement to attack what does that mean?

    A star energy card means the Pokemon is a normal type, and the attack that Requires them is a normal type attack.

    Another word it can be is neutral which is the same thing.

    If you were referring to the white circle with the “black star”, those are colorless energy. In the card game, if it’s next to an attack, that means that you can use any other energy card to pay for the cost. For example, if an attack had a Fire energy and a colorless energy, it means you have to use the Fire energy, but you can use any other energy for the colorless. You can use another Fire, Grass, etc. to fulfill the requirement.

    If it’s in the corner, it represents the Pokemon’s type. While you might want to think of colorless as “Normal-type”, it doesn’t necessarily mean the Pokemon is of a “Normal-type” because the card game only has Fire, Grass, Psychic, Fighting, Water, Electric, Dark, Colorless, and Steel. Obviously the rest of the types are missing and are grouped within the previously mentioned groups.
