Does furnace (with Heat pump) use more energy heating or cooling?

March 10th, 2010

We have a new furnace with heat pump and compressor.
In winter, it heats up the house.
In summer, it cools the house.

Does it consume more energy heating up or cooling the house?

PS: I don’t need any rude response.

what is more efficient,a furnace that runs 5 times/hr for a few minutes or runs twice/hour for longer periods?

March 10th, 2010

I have an option on my thermostat to run different programs for my gas furnace. Is it more efficient to run 5 times per hour for 3-5 minutes or to run 2 times per hour for 10 -15 minutes at a time?

Is there more than one way to set a High Efficiency Furnace?

March 9th, 2010

I have a Trane High Efficiency forced hot air furnace. It seems to be set to come on as soon as the temperature drops below the set temperature. I thought it could be set to go past the set temp and then comes on when it hits that temp. Which is more efficient? The way it is set now it seems to come on every 15 minutes.
