Q&A: What is typical home gas (furnace) usage in SW Ontario home?

Question by LIFE_CONSUMER: What is typical home gas (furnace) usage in SW Ontario home?
I have a 3 bedroom, 1150 sq ft detached house in SW ontario (KW area). It is 70 years old (or maybe more). My gas usage during the past winter months averaged about 275 cubic meters per month. I would like to know if this seems “reasonable”, or way out of whack. The furnace is only a few years old, and I think it is categorized as “medium efficiency”.

The home inspector told me before I bought the house that the attic insultation is below the current standard (R-value I guess). So I’m wondering if I could see any decent savings by throwing down bunch more insulation.

Oh yeah, the place has nearly all new windows. The basement is the exception where they are old, and kinda busted up (covered with plastic, duct tape,etc). The house has vinyl siding, not sure if that affects things.

I think that the furnace is the only gas appliance (Aug-Sept this year was only 4.5 cubic meters of gas usage).
Also – I have a programmable thermostat, so I gain some efficiency with that by having it turn down during the day.

Seems a bit high mid-eff. furnace for that square footage
hot water gas?stove gas? clothes dryer gas? I run about 285c/m
for 2100sq ft. on average with gas hot water gas dryer and gas range(stove)
family of 5 and furnace is 2 years old mid-eff. with 80%AFUE rating.
